Vlad is the president and founder of Busek Co. Inc. His research activities are focused on
micropropulsion including colloid/electrospray thrusters. In addition to his management function, he is
the company chief scientist with direct technical contributions in propulsion, power management and
distribution, command, control and communication, advanced materials sciences, and electronic
systems. He was the inventor of a Hall thruster which was the predecessor to the Busek-Primex-
Thruster (BPT) series of Hall thruster's flight qualified and flown on the Advanced EHF Space Vehicle-1
Vlad has more than 40 years of professional experience and is a world renowned expert in the field of
electric propulsion. Vlad holds numerous patents for Hall, colloid and RF thrusters and power
processing. In 2009 Vlad was awarded the Best Paper of the Year Award for his paper for the
development of colloid thruster systems. He is the Chairmen of the Electric Propulsion Technical
Committee of the AIAA and served two terms on the Plasmadynamics and Lasers Technical Committee.
Vlad's degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology include: Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics
and Astronautics (1973), Master of Science (1975), and Engineer of Aeronautics and Astronautics
(1975). He received his Ph.D. from Tufts University in 1982.
